TAMIR, YAʿEL (1954–)

Israeli scholar and politician. Yaʿel (Yuli) Tamir was born in Israel in 1954 and received her doctoral degree from Oxford University. A professor of political philosophy at Tel Aviv University and a research fellow at the Hartman Institute of Jewish Studies, she is the author of numerous books and articles on various subjects, including liberalism, feminism, and nationalism. Tamir was also one of the founders of the Peace Now movement. From 1980 to 1985 she was an active member of the RATZ Party and since 1995 a member of the Labor Party. Tamir served as minister of immigrant absorption from August 1999 to March 2001.
