1. Low robust post, fixed to quays of harbours, in order to secure the moorings of ships.

2. Street-furniture, often of cast iron, usually in the form of a small column conforming to the Doric Order, or resembling a cannon, fixed in a road, footpath, or boundary to prevent vehicles from passing.
