Busby, Sir Matt
Busby, Sir Matt (1909–94) Scottish football player and manager. Busby played for Manchester City, Liverpool, and Scotland, before becoming manager (1945–69) of Manchester United. He survived the 1958 Munich air disaster (in which most of the famous ‘Busby Babes’ died) to build his third great side, and the first English club to win the European Cup (1968).
