PERSONAL: Born August 22, 1937, in Witten, Germany; son of Johannes (a pastor) and Margarete (a musician) Busch; married Beate H. Blum (a pastor), November 25, 1967; children: Emanuel, Christian, Sara, Nathanael. Education: Studied at institutions in Wuppertal, Göttingen, Heidelberg, and Münster, Germany, and Basel, Switzerland.

CAREER: Pastor of Reformed church in Uerkheim, Switzerland, 1969-86; University of Göttingen, Göttingen, Germany, professor of Reformed theology, 1986-2002, professor emeritus, 2002—, director of Karl Barth Research Center, 1986—. Princeton Theological Seminary, Warfield Lecturer, 2004; Campbell scholar in Decatur, GA; guest lecturer in the United States, 1985, and in Romania, Switzerland, Japan, Canada, Italy, and the Netherlands. Member of synod, Reformed Church, 1990-2006, and Evangelical Church in Deutschland, 1990-2002.
