Description: Independent, 4-year, coed, affiliated with Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Awards bachelor's degrees. Founded 1900. Setting: 400-acre rural campus. Endowment: $15.4 million. Total enrollment: 792. 799 applied, 79% were admitted. 7% from top 10% of their high school class, 19% from top quarter, 54% from top half. Full-time: 762 students, 56% women, 44% men. Part-time: 30 students, 90% women, 10% men. Community Environment: Banner Elk is in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, 100 miles from Charlotte and 83 miles northeast of Asheville. Elk River is nearby for trout fishing, and during the winter there is sufficient snow for outdoor winter sports.
