Krebs, Sir Hans Adolf (1900–81) British biochemist, b. Germany. In 1953 he shared (with F. A. Lipmann) the Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine for his discovery of the
Krebs (or citric acid)
cycle, the process that results in the production of energy in living organisms (
respiration).
