Stoutz, Edmond de

Stoutz, Edmond de, Swiss conductor; b. Zurich, Dec. 18, 1920; d. there, Jan. 28, 1997. He received training in law at the Univ. and in piano, cello, oboe, percussion, and composition at the Hochschule für Musik in Zürich. He completed his musical studies in Salzburg and Vienna, and began his career as a cellist in various ensembles in Zürich. In 1954 he founded the Zürich Chamber Orch., with which he toured widely as a conductor. In 1962 he also founded the Zürich Concert Choir. He retired in 1996. In addition to scores of the past, he invariably included works by contemporary composers in his programs.
