Parelli (real name, Paparella), Attilio

Parelli (real name, Paparella), Attilio, Italian conductor and composer; b. Monteleone d’Orvieto, near Perugia, May 31, 1874; d. there, Dec. 26, 1944. He studied at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, graduating in 1899. He held various posts as a conductor in Italy and France; went to the U.S. as asst. conductor to Campanini at the Manhattan Opera in N.Y. (1906); also conducted for the Chicago Grand Opera Co. In 1925 he returned to Europe. He wrote the operas Hermes (Genoa, Nov. 8, 1906), I dispettosi amanti (Philadelphia, March 6, 1912), and Fanfulla (Trieste, Feb. 11, 1921), as well as a Sym., Rapsodia umbra, orch. suite, La Chimera, symphonic poem, and songs.
