Padbrué, David Janszoon

Padbrué, David Janszoon, Netherlands singer,lutenist, and composer, uncle of Cornelis Thymanszoon Padbrué; b. Haarlem, c. 1553; d. Amsterdam (buried), Feb. 19, 1635. His father, Jan Janszoon Padbrué, “Jenning de Sangher” (b. c. 1520; d. 1582), was a countertenor at St. Baaf s, and his brother, Thyman Janszoon Padbrué (b. c. 1555; d. 1627), was a town piper. He sang in the choir at St. Baafs as a child, and from 1562 to 1570 he was a member of the Capilla Flamenca in Madrid. He held prebends in Delft, The Hague, and Haarlem. Following studies in literature at the Univ. of Leiden (1580), he settled in Amsterdam and was active as a flax merchant from 1587. Several pieces in the Thysius Lutebook are attributed to him.
