Nicholson or Nicolson, Richard, English composer and organist; b. place and date unknown; d. Oxford, 1639. He received his D.Mus. degree from Oxford in 1596. He served as Informator choristarum (from 1595) and as first master of the Music Praxis (from 1626) at Magdalen Coll., Oxford. His works include 2 anthems, 4 madrigals, a madrigal cycle, 5 consort songs, and 2 pavans for 5 Viols.
