Lloyd, David (John) de
Lloyd, David (John) de, Welsh composer and teacher; b. Skewen, April 30, 1883; d. Aberystwyth, Aug. 20, 1948. He studied at the Univ. Coll. of Wales, Aberystwyth (B.A., 1903; B.Mus., 1905), the Leipzig Cons. (1906–07), and the Univ. of Dublin (Mus.D., 1915). He served as a lecturer (1919–26) and a prof. (1926–48) at the Univ. Coll. of Wales. Among his works were the operas Gwenllian (1924) and Tir na n-og (1930), Cylch corawl o ganeuon gwerin (Choral Folksong Cycle) for Chorus and Orch. (1938), Requiem cymraeg (Welsh Requiem) for Soloists and Chorus (1947), and other choral pieces and songs.
