Jones, Edwin Arthur

Jones, Edwin Arthur, American violinist, organist, teacher, and composer; b. Stoughton, Mass., June 28, 1853; d. there, Jan. 9, 1911. He received training in violin, organ, and harmony at the New England Cons. of Music in Boston. Following additional studies at Dartmouth Coll., where he was organist of the Handel Soc, concertmaster of the orch., and director of the glee club, he returned to Stoughton to pursue his career. He composed several overtures and marches, the cantata Song of Our Savior (1881), the oratorio Easter Concert (1890), two trios for Piano, Violin, and Double Bass (1871), two string trios (1878), two string quartets (1880, 1887), and songs.
