Yip Kim Fay (Yun-Fat) arrives in Hong Kong on the eve of war in 1941 and befriends peasant Wong Hak Keung (Man). Fay and Keung plan to leave Hong Kong with Keung's girlfriend, Ah Nam (Yip), but fall victim to the Japanese invasion.
