The Big One ★★ 1998 (PG-13)

Moore once again takes his populist, CEObaiting act on the road in search of corporate evildoers, this time on Random House's dime. Documentary lovingly follows Moore on his 1996 book promo tour, as he highlights plant closings, verbally spars with Nike boss Phil Knight, plays pranks on his “handlers,” and mugs for his adoring fans. His style is still the same as in “Roger & Me,” but since he's joined the celebrity ranks, Moore isn't going to sneak up on anybody. To his credit, he doesn't try, but to his discredit, he ends up haranguing the very working people he claims to be standing up for, mostly exasperated receptionists and secretaries. Corporate greed and apathy are still squarely in Moore's crosshairs, but this time his own ego prevents him from getting a clear shot at his target. 90m/C VHS, DVD. D: Michael Moore; Nar: Michael Moore.
