ILLÉS, BÉLA
ILLÉS, BÉLA (1895–1974), Hungarian author and editor. Illés, a political commissar during the Communist revolution of 1919, fled to the U.S.S.R. After World War ii, he was a leading organizer of Soviet literary life. His works include Kárpátirapszodia ("Carpathian Rhapsody," 1950), which portrays the life of simple Jews, and Harminchat esztendő ("Selected Writings," 1956).
