Vernadsky, George
George Vernadsky (vĕrnät´skē), 1887–1973, American historian, b. Russia. He emigrated to the United States in 1927 and was research associate in history (1927–46) and professor of Russian history (1946–56) at Yale. His many books on Russian and Ukrainian history include Political and Diplomatic History of Russia (1936) and a five-volume work, A History of Russia (1943–69). The first two volumes were written with Michael Karpovich.
