Poincaré, Raymond Nicolas Landry
Poincaré, Raymond Nicolas Landry (1860–1934) French statesman. He served in several government posts and was prime minister (1912–13) before becoming president (1913–20). An ardent nationalist and conservative, he accepted his opponent Georges Clemenceau as premier in 1917, in the sake of national unity. Poincaré was again prime minister in 1922–24 and 1926–29. In 1923, he ordered the occupation of the Ruhr to force German payment of reparations.
