Reissiger, Karl Gottlieb
Reissiger, Karl Gottlieb (b Belzig, 1789; d Dresden, 1859). Ger. composer and conductor. Weber cond. his opera Didone abbandonata in Dresden, 1824. Succeeded Weber as dir., Dresden Court Opera, 1826, and was appointed Hofkapellmeister 1828. Made Dresden Opera best in Ger. Cond. f.p. of Rienzi 1842, appointing Wagner as 2nd cond. 1843. Wrote 9 operas, incl. Turandot (1843).
