Gallo, Fortune
Gallo, Fortune, Italian-American impresario; b. Torremaggiore, May 9, 1878; d. N.Y, March 28, 1970. After piano studies, he emigrated to the U.S. in 1895. In 1909 he founded the San Carlo Opera Co., which toured throughout the U.S. until it disbanded in 1955. In 1926 he built the Gallo Theater in N.Y He was a pioneering figure in the production of operatic sound films, Pagliacci being the first such effort in 1928.
