Filiasi, Lorenzo
Filiasi, Lorenzo, Italian composer; b. Naples, March 25, 1878; d. Rome, July 30, 1963. He studied at the Conservatorio di S. Pietro a Majella in Naples with Nicola d’Arienzo. His first success came with the opera Manuel Menendez (Milan, May 15, 1904), which won the Sonzogno Competition Prize in 1902. His other operas included Fior di Neve (Milan, April 1, 1911) and Messidoro (1912). He also wrote a pantomime, Pierrot e Bluette (1895), La preghiera del marinaio italiano for Chorus and Orch., Visioni romantiche for Orch., violin pieces, and many songs.
