Race to Space
Race to Space ★★½ 2001 (PG)
German rocket scientist Wilhelm Von Huber (Woods) and his young son Billy (Linz) move to Cocoa Beach, Florida, in 1960 so dad can work for NASA on the Mercury program. Billy, who's been lonely since his mother's death, is taken under the wing of vet Donni McGuinness (Gish), and bonds with Mac, one of the chimps being trained to go into space, which in turn helps him get closer to his father. The chimp steals the movie, which is heavy on the sentimentality. 104m/C VHS, DVD . Alex D. Linz, James Woods, William Devane, William Atherton, John O'Hurley, Barry Corbin, Annabeth Gish, Jake Lloyd; D: Sean McNamara; W: Eric Gardner, Steven H. Wilson; C: Christian Sebaldt; M: John Coda.
