Algerian writer and feminist. Name variations: Fadela M'rabet or Mrabet. Born in 1935 in Constantine, Algeria; graduated from the University of Algiers.
Fadéla M'rabet was born into a religious Islamic family in Constantine, Algeria, in 1935. She graduated from the University of Algiers, and then worked with her father at the Algerian state radio station, where she was responsible for a woman's program. The eight-year Algerian war for independence from France ended in 1962, and that year M'rabet published her first book, La Femme algérienne, a collection of interviews with women concerning the revolution and the independence movement. Shortly thereafter, she released a second book, Les algériennes. M'rabet became recognized as a leading voice for feminism in Algeria. She published a third book, L'Algérie des illusions, in 1973.
