McCracken, Esther Helen (b. around 1902)
English playwright and actress . Born Esther Helen Armstrong in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, around 1902; married Angus McCracken (a lieutenant-colonel who would die in action in World War II in 1943); married Mungo Campbell.
Esther Helen McCracken acted with the Newcastle Repertory Company from 1924 to 1937. Her first play, The Willing Spirit, was produced in 1936; two years later, Quiet Wedding sealed McCracken's reputation as a first-rate playwright of domestic comedy. She also wrote Quiet Weekend (1941) and No Medals (1944).
