Knipp, Mrs. (fl. 1670)
Knipp, Mrs. (fl. 1670)
English actress. Name variations: Mrs. Knep. Flourished around 1670; married.
An English actress, Mrs. Knipp probably first appeared as Epicene in Ben Jonson's Silent Woman in 1664. What is known of her is principally from the entries in Samuel Pepys' diary, who found her "excellent company," despite her "horse-jockey of a husband." She acted in plays by Jacobean and Restoration dramatists and disappeared from the bills by 1678.
