American costume designer. Born on January 11, 1914 in San Diego, California; attended Otis Art Institute, 1931–34; children: Stephen Sydney Dane; Peter Jeakins Dane.

Born in San Diego, California, in 1914, Dorothy Jeakins trained at Otis Art Institute and designed for the stage before arriving in Hollywood in the late 1940s. Jeakins frequently collaborated with Edith Head and also worked with Charles LeMaire during the 1950s. The designer shared Academy Awards for Joan of Arc (1948), Samson and Delilah (1950), and The Night of the Iguana (1964). She also designed costumes for network television.
