Mattie Moss Clark, America's leading female choir director, trained gospel headliners Donald Vails, Rance Allen, and Beverly Glenn. As national minister of music for the Churches of God in Christ, she directed many choirs, the most famous of which was the Churches of God in Christ Southwest Michigan State Choir. Her most prominent pupils, however, were her daughters, a famed gospel group known as the Clark Sisters : Jackie, Denise, Elbernita (called Twinkie), Dorinda, and Karen.
