Trotter, Mildred (1899–1991)

American physical anthropologist. Born Feb 3, 1899, in Monaca, PA; died 1991.

Among the most eminent physical anthropologists of the 20th century, was responsible for contributing much of the current knowledge about human skeletal structure and density, especially characteristics of long limb bones; taught more than 4,000 students during career at Washington University School of Medicine and became 1st woman to be named full professor at that institution (1946). Her formulas for estimating stature are still in use by the FBI.
