Sidhwa, Bapsi (1938–)

Pakistani novelist. Born Aug 11, 1938, in Karachi, Pakistan; brought up in Lahore; graduate of Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore; lives in Houston, Texas; children: 3.

Taught at University of Houston, Rice University, Columbia University, Brandeis, and Mt. Holyoke College; in English, wrote The Crow Eaters (1982), The Bride (1983), Cracking India (1991), and An American Brat (1993). Awarded Sitari-I-Imtiaz (1991), Harvard Fellowship, and Lila WallaceReader's Digest Award (1993).
