Danish novelist, playwright and short-story writer. Born May 4, 1937, in Fredriksborg, Denmark; dau. of Steen Ryum and Elise Kirstine Hammer; children: Rasmus (b. 1968), Martin (b. 1973).
Works include Spejl (Mirror, 1962), Natsangersken (Night Singer, 1963), Latterfuglen (1965), Tusindskove (1969), and Noter om idag og igår (1971). Published in English, Two Plays by Ulla Ryum (2001). Received several awards.
