Was a founder member of the Progessive Democrats (1985); representing Progressive Democrats, elected to the 25th Dáil (1987–89) for Cork North Central; returned to 26th-27th Dáil (1989–1997); was one of the Taoiseach's nominees to the Seanad (1997).
