Won US National indoor mile and 2-mile titles (1976); won 2 gold medals at Pan American Games and 2 US team 1st places at World Cross Country championships; set world records for 3,000 meters (indoors) at 8:57.3 (1978), 2 miles (outdoor) at 9:46.6 (1978), 2 miles (indoor) at 9:31.8 (1977) and 5,000 meters (outdoor) at 15:30.8 (1980).
