American political columnist and humorist. Born c. 1944 in Texas; dau. of Jim and Margo Ivins; Smith College, BA; Columbia University, MA; attended Institute of Political Science, Paris.
Liberal newspaper columnist for Fort Worth Star-Telegram, came to national prominence with her scathing commentary on Texas politics and George Bush, done in a folksy, irreverent style; became nationally syndicated; wrote You Got to Dance with Them What Brung You: Politics in the Clinton Years (1998) and Nothin' but Good Times Ahead.
