English-born actress. Born Violet Hemming, Jan 27, 1895, in Leeds, Yorkshire, England; died July 4, 1981, in New York, NY; dau. of Alfred Hemming (actor); m. Grant Mills (div.); m. Bennett Champ Clark (judge, died 1954).
Made 1st stage appearance in US (1908) in Peter Pan; on Broadway, appeared in numerous productions including Sonya, The Rubicon, The Rivals, Trelawny of the Wells, Loose Ends, Within the Law, Ladies All, Yes My Darling Daughter, Love for Love and Dear Barbarians; made several films, including The Man Who Played God; retired (1945).
