African-American singer. Name variations: Micki Harris; The Shirelles. Born Jan 22, 1940, in Passaic, NJ; died of heart attack, June 10, 1982, during live performance of Shirelles in Atlanta, GA.
Began singing in high school in Passaic, NJ, with Shirley Owens, Doris Coley, and Beverly Lee as the Shirelles (1958), one of the 1st few all-girl groups of rock era; with group, wrote and performed "I Met Him on a Sunday" which was bought by Decca; released hit song, "Tonight's the Night" (1960), followed by #1 pop hit, "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" (1961), then "Baby It's You" (1963), "Mama Said," "Soldier Boy" and "Foolish Little Girl." Inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1996).
