At Paris Olympics, won a silver medal in 100-meter backstroke (1924); competed in the next 3 Olympiads, the 1st woman to compete in 4 Olympics; held the World record in 200-meter backstroke (1932#35). Inducted into International Swimming Hall of Fame (1995).
