Won the French Open (1951), beating Doris Hart; with Doris Hart, won French Open doubles championship (1950–53), Wimbledon doubles (1951–53) and US Open doubles (1951, 1954); won US Open (1956); with Vic Seixas, won the mixed doubles Wimbledon championship (1956); won Australian singles title (1957). Inducted into International Tennis Hall of Fame (1970).
