Indian novelist and short-story writer. Born 1938 in Dharwad, India; dau. of Shriranga; studied law and economics at universities of Bombay and Bangalore, and literature at Mysore University; children: 2.
Did not begin writing until her 30s; short stories appeared in The Legacy (1971), The Miracle (1986), and It Was Dark (1986); novels include The Dark Holds No Terrors (1980), Come Up and Be Dead (1983), Roots and Shadows (1983), It Was the Nightingale (1986), and That Long Silence (1988). Awarded Thirumathi Rangammal Prize (1984) for Roots and Shadows.
