Beatrix de Bourgogne (1257–1310)

Duchess of Bourbon. Name variations: Beatrice of Burgundy, Beatrice of Bourbon; Béatrix. Born in 1257; died on October 1, 1310, at Château-Murat; daughter of Jean de Bourgogne also known as John of Burgundy and Agnes de Dampierre (1237–1287); married Robert of France (1256–1317), count of Clermont, in 1271 or 1278; children: Louis I the Grand (1270–1342), count of Clermont.

Born into the noble houses of Burgundy and Bourbon, Beatrix de Bourgogne received an excellent education. She was betrothed early and married Robert of France, son of the count of Clermont. As her parents had no surviving sons, Beatrix—their eldest daughter—was named their heir. When her mother, Agnes de Dampierre , died in 1287, Beatrix inherited the duchy of Bourbon (located in modern-day central France). She ruled as duchess for 23 years, until her death in 1310.
