Andrews, Mary Raymond (1860–1936)

American author. Born Mary Raymond Shipman, April 2, 1860, in Mobile, Alabama; died Aug 2, 1936, in Syracuse, NY; dau. of Jacob Shaw Shipman (Episcopalian minister) and Ann Louise Gold (Johns) Shipman; m. William Shankland Andrews (lawyer and later judge), Dec 31, 1884; children: Paul Shipman Andrews (b. 1887, became dean of the College of Law at Syracuse University).

Author of short books, stories, poems and articles who contributed to many periodicals over a long career, primarily Scribner's Magazine; known for sentimental plots and romantic characters, published best-known story, The Perfect Tribute, about the Gettysburg Address, in Scribner's (July 1906); wrote over 20 books, including A Lost Commander (1929), a biography of Florence Nightingale.
