Andresen, Sophia de Mello Breyner (1919–2004)

Portuguese author of poetry, children's books, and short stories. Born Nov 6, 1919, in Oporto, Portugal; died July 2, 2004; educated at University of Lisbon; children: 5.

One of Portugal's most respected poets, published 1st collection, Poesia, at 25; over the next 50 years, produced 11 more volumes of verse, as well as short stories and children's books; is also known for her translations, including works of Shakespeare.
