yuppie
yuppie informal and derogatory term for a well-paid young middle-class professional who works in a city job and has a luxurious lifestyle. The term is recorded from the 1980s, seen as the period at which such people flourished, and is an elaboration of the acronym from young urban professional. It has generated a number of similar terms.
