telepathy

telepathy supposed communication between two persons without recourse to the senses. The word was formulated in 1882 by Frederic William Henry Myers, English poet, essayist, and a leading founder of the Society for Psychical Research in London. Telepathy experiments have been conducted in Europe, the Soviet Union, and the United States, but the phenomenon remains unproved. See parapsychology .

telepathy the supposed communication of thoughts or ideas by means other than the known senses; the term was coined in the late 19th century by the poet and essayist Frederic William Henry Myers (1843–1901), who in 1882 became one of the founding members of the Society for Psychical Research.

telepathy Form of extrasensory perception (ESP) involving the transmission and reception of thoughts without using the usual sensory channels. Such transference has never been proved although claims to telepathy have been extensively investigated.
