Wolfgang Paul

Wolfgang Paul 1913-93, German physicist, Ph.D. Technical Univ., Berlin, 1939. A professor at the Univ. of Bonn since 1952, Paul worked with Hans Dehmelt to develop an ion trap technique (known as the Paul trap), which made possible the detailed study of subatomic particles. For this invention, Dehmelt and Paul shared the 1989 Nobel Prize in Physics with Norman F. Ramsey .

Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. Orch. based on Geneva founded 1918 by Ernest Ansermet (as Orchestre Romand), who was cond. until 1966. His successors have been Paul Kletzki 1967–9, Wolfgang Sawallisch 1970–80, Horst Stein 1980–5, and Armin Jordan from 1985.
