satellite television

satellite television Television services transmitted to viewers via communications satellites in orbit around the Earth. These satellites orbit the Equator and keep in time with the Earth's spin. As a result, each one remains above a fixed point on the Equator. Television companies beam their signals to the satellites from ground stations. The satellites retransmit the signals back to viewers' dish-shaped receiving aerials. A fixed aerial receives many services from a single satellite.
