Saint Philip one of the Twelve Apostles. Like Peter and Andrew, he came from Bethsaida in Galilee. He is mentioned several times in the New Testament (Mat. 10.3; John 1.43-51; 6.5,7; 12.21,22; 14.8,9; Acts 1.13). Philip is said to have been martyred at Hierapolis of Phrygia. He is sometimes confused with St. Philip the Evangelist. Feast (with St. James the Less): May 1.

Philip, Saint (active 1st century ad) One of the original 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ. Philip came from Bethsaida, on the Sea of Galilee. Christian tradition says he preached in Asia Minor and met a martyr's death. His feast day is May 3 (in the West) or November 14 (in the East). He appears to be a different person from Philip the Evangelist, one of the seven deacons who aided the apostles. According to tradition, he became Bishop of Tralles, now in Turkey. His feast day is June 9.
