Ramsey, Sir Alf
Ramsey, Sir Alf ( Alfred) (1920–99) English football manager and player. Ramsay was a fullback for Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur, and made 32 appearances for England (1948–53). He began his managerial career with Ipswich Town, helping them win the League Championship (1962) before managing (1963–74) the national team. Ramsay created and guided England's only World Cup-winning side (1966).
