Ramsbury, diocese of
Ramsbury, diocese of. Founded in 909 by Edward the Elder in his reorganization of the Winchester diocese, Ramsbury comprised Wiltshire and Berkshire. In 1058 it was merged with Sherborne, which in 1075 was moved to Salisbury (Old Sarum).
