Pullman, Philip Nicholas

Pullman, Philip Nicholas (1946– ) English children's writer. Pullman is best-known for the fantasy trilogy of adventures of Lyra Belacqua, His Dark Materials: Northern Lights (or The Golden Compass 1996), The Subtle Knife (1997), and The Amber Spyglass (2000). In 2001 The Amber Spyglass became the first children's book to win the Whitbread Prize. Other works include the Sally Lockhart trilogy: The Ruby in the Smoke (1988), The Shadow in the North (1989), and The Tiger in the Well (1992).
