Naboth

Naboth

Naboth in the Bible, the owner of a vineyard coveted by king Ahab; when Naboth refused to sell it, Ahab's wife Jezebel caused him to be falsely accused of blasphemy and stoned to death. On taking possession of the vineyard, Ahab was warned by Elijah that the sin would bring disaster on his dynasty and on Jezebel. The story is referred to allusively for situations in which one who is already wealthy covets the single possession of another.
