Mbabane

Mbabane

Mbabane, Swaziland Founded in 1902 when the British took control of Swaziland and named after Chief Mbabane Kunene whose clan occupied the area. The precise meaning of his name is not known, but is said to convey ‘something sharp and bitter’, perhaps his attitude. It has been the national capital since 1903 and was raised to city status in 1992.
